This fan is woven from the leaves of the Kuba, or Chinese fan palm (Livistona), which grows naturally in Okinawa. For centuries, Kuba has been valued as a versatile material, used for walls, roofs, fans, and even wrapping food, supporting many aspects of daily life.

Today, however, very few artisans continue the everyday making of Kuba crafts. The traditions, culture, and skills nurtured on Yonaguni Island are fading, and this fan stands as a quiet reminder of that heritage.
