A Japanese vintage small plate from the wartime Showa period, Gifu inban ware.
The milky white porcelain is decorated with a landscape motif centered around pine trees. Along the rim are tortoise-shell and crane motifs, traditional symbols of longevity and good fortune in Japan. Slight irregularities characteristic of rubber-stamp printing give the decoration a gentle warmth.
The reverse bears the control mark “Gi 350,” indicating that the piece was produced in Gifu under Japan’s wartime ceramic production system.
A modest piece that reveals the simple charm and character of inban ware.
Size:
Approx. Ø11.5 × H2.2cm
Condition:
Minor wear, distortion, kiln marks, and variations from piece to piece are present. Some examples may have small chips, but these do not affect use. Please enjoy the quiet charm of a piece that has gently aged over time.
